"If I could rate this scanner lower, I would" 2010-06-14
By Vincent M. Presta
HP does it again. Good hardware. The worst software and support I have ever seen. This scanner is as stable as Charlie Manson on crack. It would work one day, then not even found by it's own software a week later. I would have to use the windows scanning software or my OCR just to scan. It is vulnerable to unstable updates, both HP and Microsoft. After 3 years of this pain it finally got to the point were nothing would work. Device manager would find it but that was it.

Support is useless. It's not worth the phone time or emails. Their script monkeys can barely read, let alone help. This POS is on the porch with a hammer in it and I am fishing my old reliable 6200c out of the attic. Oh, for you Linux fans out there. (Ubuntu 6.10 thru 10.4) forget this beast. Proprietary chip and HP NDA will never allow for linux driver development. So much for HP lies about Linux support

 "Great scanner" 2010-06-05

I was so sick of the scanners that are combined with the printers. This scanner is very accurate, and I am able to scan several pictures at the same time. It works well with my Mac.

 "HP scanners rock" 2010-03-21
By A. Kerouac (New England)
Love my new HP scanner (which replaces my old HP scanner that I gave to a friend). It was simple to connect to my Mac, as well as directly to my printer. I love the HPs because I can put a number of photos on the scanner together and then save them as individual pictures. That's a huge time saver when you're scanning a lot of pictures.

 "Windows 7 Problems" 2010-03-01
By C. LaTorra (Humboldt County. CA)
Despite the enclosure with the scanner saying to go to the HP website for Windows 7 drivers, the drivers didn't yet exist for this particular scanner. The technician at HP (via email) said to install the Vista drivers that came with the scanner. This does work but not all functions work properly. I have been told (again via email) that at some point Windows 7 drivers will be available for the product. I'm still waiting!

In spite of the driver issues, the scanner works fine for my application. It could be a little faster, but it is so much better speed wise than my previous scanner that it is not a problem.

The only other possible drawback with this scanner is that it is rather large. It is a full 5 inches longer and 2 inches wider than my old 8 1/2 x 11 scanner. If you have the desk space, though. the size is not a problem.

scans with great accuracy and legibility. use for shipping documents, even duplicates and triplicates scan extremely well. Stopped using all in one HP scanner/printer & use this one instead.

Works extremely well, the OCR leaves errors, but not too many. Its portability is excellent, and the fact that it can be put aside standing means the desktop is clear.

 "Horrible software" 2010-03-09
By Lee Frankel (Boston, MA)
The software this comes with doesn't allow you to save as a pdf, which is generally what anyone scanning documents wants. I had to call tech support, who didn't know how to save as a pdf. They suggested looking at Adobe software or 3rd party software. Why would I want to buy a scanner and then have to buy additional software on top of that?

 "Works with windows 7" 2010-02-24
By R. Lynn
This is a great little scanner. It scans anything from a business card up to at least a letter size page. I haven't tried a legal size page. I did have a hard time getting it to run on my computer which has the Windows 7 operating system. I was basically trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. After about 2 hours I finally got smart and went to the company site, [...], and downloaded the correct drivers. From there it was a cinch, only took about 2 minutes to have it up and running. I recommend if you are running Windows 7 that you download the proper drivers first. It will save you a lot of frustration.
