No frills installation and ease of use. This is a down and dirty scanner without all the clunky "options". The actual scan is lightning fast and the set up was very easy and quick. The only issue I have is that I can't acquire the scanner from Photoshop, I have to use the scan software (which itself, is easy to use). I'm sure I can do some more research and get the scanner accessible from Photoshop. A great deal!

I purchased this machine to copy large pages from old photo albums. The machine is not cheap but compare to large format copies at Kinkos! It works flawlessly. Easy to set up. Instruction Manual on CD & very good. The software included is very sophisticated and does many things that Photoshop does for manipulation of images. It can scan selective portions of a document; it can "adjust" pictures etc. I am happy because there is not much choice out there in large format scanners in this price range. If you need backlit scanning ability (eg for X-rays or transparencies) you'll need Epson's higher price model. I have used it with a Mac & a PC with no problems with either. I have not had to deal with Epson's customer service, so I cannot comment on that. My smaller Epson scanner has worked well for years so I am optomistic this machine will do likewise.

Great large-format scanner. It's a work horse--not many frills, but very competent. I use it almost exclusively for document scanning (mostly music), and mostly at 600dpi. While I've done some photo scans, I'm not competent to judge their quality, other than that I subjectively like them better than my $100 Canon scanner.



I'd love to see someone compare this scanner to the Epson $2500 model, for performance *and* quality. (For my use, performance at 600dpi is more important than the scanner's absolute best quality at its max optical dpi.)



PROs: Large format; document good scan quality; Much faster than $100 letter-sized scanners; nice lid (easily removable, flexible positioning); reasonable software bundle.



CONs: Big (probably true of all large format scanners); cooling fan is a bit loud, but does turn off after about 5 minutes of non-use.

Early days but to this point the GT-20000 is giving us exactly what we were looking for. This is a 'mid-range' price product - not as cheap as the products one might expect to be 'inexpensive' with reviews that suggest adequate but not good quality. Nor is the GT-20000 quite as expensive as the professional range models. Installation and start up were simple and quick - we were soon up and running. We wanted a product which would give good quality scans of large format pages for scrapbooking and this does exactly that although some adjustments were necesaary to scan quality and color. Perfect for the price paid.

Nobody else has reviewed this thing yet so I'll give it a shot.



I picked up this thing because it was the middleground between the iffy to crappy musteks and the uber high end 2 grad scanners. Since I've had good experiences with Epson scanners before this seemed like a safe purchase. This is day one of my owning it: After unpacking it, plugging it in and installing the software...I can safely say it works quite well.



Scans go pretty quickly at default settings but get slower the higher your dpi settings (but this is to be expected, especially if you have large documents).



I will do another review later after do some more scans to see how well it holds up.

We needed a new scanner here at work because our HP scanner was absolutely ancient and VERY slow. I was looking for a new scanner that had auto document feed, easy to use & could accept legal size paper. We just scan paper documents and it gets moderate daily use from several office staff.



I read the reviews here on Amazon & also checked out several other scanners, but chose this one because it could handle legal size paper. I was not disappointed!! This scanner is blazing fast in "Office Mode" at 600 dpi in black & white. A ten page document took about 20 seconds to scan & create a crystal clear PDF document. It has several different settings although we probably won't use them very often. It does scan in color which takes quite a bit longer.



It took about ten minutes to set up the scanner including taking it out of the box & installing the software. To begin a scan you just push a single button on the scanner & a popup window comes up to set your parameters. Extremely easy!



If you want a workhorse of a scanner with brilliant imaging then get this one.

I bought this scanner for office use. It gets used to copy mostly documents, and occasionally items where the flat bed is required. I use it for about twenty pages per day, on average. Installation was effortless in Windows 7. The user interface is elegant and simple, with all of the usual adjustments readily available and obvious. The document feeder has worked flawlessly, and the scan qualilty is very good, excellent for office type use. I've not tested the color rendition fidelity, but color document copies look fine. I think the included Epson software is excellent. I also have an HP N6310 scanner in another office, and the Epson GT-2500 seems superior in every respect, especially in how well the document feeder works.

Unfortunately I carry work home. As a business owner with a steady influx of information, I have tried to stay as electronic as possible with the storage of this information. I have two document scanners in my office that get used reguarly and wanted to upgrade at home from the flatbed scanners I have used for years. I researched options and truthfully, the Epson GT2500 was the least expensive one with good reviews. This scanner has been in service in my home for two years and there have been no equipment issues. I am able to create electronic documents of my typical 5 to 15 sheets in very reasonable time. Double sided scans are a little slow, but there has been only one jam in the 2 years, created by me not separating a previously stapled document, so three sheets went through the scanner. This scanner does exacly what I need when I work at home. I recommend this machine for users that need more than a flatbed for documents scanning. I would not use this machine in an office with more than 3 to 4 people; a little too slow.



April 8, 2010 Update: I still have this scanner at the house and use it regularly. I still strongly recommend this scanner for light daily use. The only issue is sticking sheets, i.e multiple sheets pulled through the automatic feeder. I guess I have used this machine for more than four years now and would probably replace it with an identical machine if need arose.

I bought this puppy when I discovered the TWAIN driver for my EPSON perfection scanner was not compatible with omnipage 16. After using the gt 2500 several hours a day for a month, we have experienced no problems so far. Seems to be fast and efficient and I would recommend it with omnipage 16 if you want to create a paperless office and turn documents into searchable PDF Files.

 "Neat scanner" 2010-06-01

This scanner has a very small footprint and good quality. My only complaint is that the out-tray (or folding shelf, really) is not connected well. Just after a week of having this unit I had the shelf folded up and just flipped it, not hard, either, to start a scan. Well, the little plastic pins that hold the shelf to the piece that is connected to the scanner sheared off. If these little protrusions are meant to be a safety item, intended to break rather than have someone brush past and flip the entire unit on the floor, they did the job but a bit too effectively. The weight of the shelf was sufficient to crack off the protrusions. Now, if the design allowed for the replacement of these "pins" without having to purchase a new shelf, that would not be too bad (sort of like a shear pin in an outboard motor of years past.)



Otherwise, this is a fine scanner with easy to use software.

Let me start by saying I've used numerous scanners at my office (which is going paperless) and this is one of the best quality scanners I've used.



I've used Xerox scanners, Cannon scanners, and other "better model" Kodak scanners. For the price, this model can't be beat. Plus, this model can scan both sides (ie "duplex") if you want it to. It rarely jams and only does so when the papers are "roughed up" (ie creases and the corners are folded over each other).



For $400, this model is just as good as the Kodak scanmates that cost twice that amount. This is definetely a top buy and a no-brainer if you're looking for a scanner to turn your office paperless.

I would not recommend the NeatDesk Mac scanner to anyone. I have been struggling with it for months. It constantly jams. when it jams, you can to restart the scanner and your whole machine for the computer to recognize it again. you can't even get through 5 pages without it jamming or freezing. it is pure frustration. the Neat company is unresponsive or slow to respond to support requests and when they do respond they all they do is send you a link to some generic documentation on the website which is totally irrelevant to the issue. The Mac support on the website is just a couple of knowledge-base articles. The neatworks software that is bundled with it doesn't even recognize the scanner half of the time. When it does work, the scanner is slow and produces huge scans. they take up a lot of disk space and there doesn't seem to be a way to make them small enough for normal use. the OCR in the software is very poor and you end up having to manually type 80% of the receipt or invoice. It takes way more time than it should. if the company was helpful then i could give it a better rating, but the service from the company just takes an already poor product and makes it even worse. I'm going to dump mine on Craigslist (unfortunalely you don't get anywhere near what you originally paid for it because the word is out that these Neat scanners are junk) and buy a Fujitsu.

I didn't purchase this particular neat receipt desktop system but did purchase one of the previous neat receipt scanner. Needless to say it was a big waste of money, its sitting in a desk drawer gathering dust! I used for a very short time before I started having problems, reloaded the software but still the files I had on my computer were corrupt! The backups I had were corrupt! So I lost alot of valuable information because of this machine. I wouldn't spend the money on this system at all! Save your money! No help from Neat Receipt either!

This is a great scanner! It is fast and VERY easy to use. I love that it is not hooked up to the computer and loads the files right onto the disk included. The reason for 4/5 stars is that the quailty is not EXACTLY like the photo, but it's as good of quality as any flatbed scanner I have used. The inperfections in the scanned photos should be fixable using photoshop. I highly recommend this product, I was going to send my pictures out to be scanned for $.15 a piece, I can do Tons more photos for the same price! Love it!

All my slides from the 60s and 70s come mounted in cardboard holders, as I'll bet most people's slides do. They won't work with this scanner. There is no way you can get your slides out of the cardboard mounts without wasting lots of time and probably ruining your slides. Besides, the dates are stamped on the cardboard, which would then be lost.



The product description just says it does photos, slides, and negatives. It's a big oversight to fail to mention that it won't work for the vast majority of people's slides.

I bought this to scan my old photos (haven't used the negative or slides functionality). It scans one photo fairly quickly (a few seconds compared to my Epson flatbed scanner which takes 1-2 mins per photo); it's pretty fast to go through a stack of old photos. However, the scanned photo quality is not as good as my Epson scanner. Also, I need to feed the photo in one at a time as opposed to other devices where you can scan a stack of photos.

I recently purchased this item so my wife could scan a large collection of our old 35mm negatives. The simplicity of use was very appealing. The unit is very easy to set up, and the ability to use while connected to a computer or as a standalone unit is very convenient.



Operation is simple for either slides or negatives. Slides need to be taken out of their carrier, which is simple. On some slides that are relatively dark, the AI in the unit thinks that the edge of the slide has not been detected. The dark area of the slide does not appear in the scan, making the image a little skinnier than it should be. The instruction book does warn that this can happen.



For negatives, just push the negative into the unit and it feeds itself through. The AI detects the frame lines between the pictures and creates one file for each photo detected. This worked great!



The only issue I had with the unit was that the color was not very true. Overall, photos had a much bluer cast to them, making them look like they were all taken with a flash. We had some of these negatives printed professionally, and those appeared normal. There is no way to adjust the unit using software to compensate. This color difference was so distracting that I could not keep the product. I'm still on the lookout for a simple unit that scans all formats.
