The scanner, itself, works fine. However, the reason I purchased it was because it advertised that all you had to do was select the format and save the scan.

That's wasn't true. The scanner came with Abbyy 2.0 reader. When it would scan only to a Tiff or pdf file, and NOT to Word or Exel, I called the company.

I was told I needed Abbyy 7 reader or better in order to scan to Word or Excel.

That's not what the advertisement stated, nor what it says on the box.

If it states that it will scan to Word, then they should include all that is necessary for it to do that.

But, as a scanner.... if you want pdf or picture files, it works well.

I needed a document scanner. This wasn't it.

I ordered this scanner thinking that it can scan documents into pdf format to be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader; however, it needs it's own software to scan and open the documents. I am not satisfied with this product for the price spent on it. If you dont mind having to use the specific software to use the scanner - then this will fit your needs. I recently found out that you will have to download Digimax PDF software from the manufacturer's website if you want instand pdf files. The software will be for the M12 Plus model, but it works.

Right from the moment it came, it was a trouble. Tried calling the support and they could not resolve it. The returns department told me do to a lot of stuff, like printing invoices, faxing ti to them. Nothing really worked. They never even got back to check what was going wrong. The machine was scanning pages in its own directions. After the 5th or 6th page only half of the page would be scanned. It was a headache. Thanks to amazon for a great and smooth return. Then i bought a scansnap....you know what, my whole idea of scanning changed. Scansnap from fujitsu is one of the best options available for MAC.

I bought this scanner hoping to use it with my Mac. The Mac OS is not listed under the system requirements, but since it's supposedly TWAIN compliant I assumed it would work with Apple's built-in Image Capture application. Most of the time system requirements for simple devices such as printers, cameras and scanners refer specifically to the (crummy) software bundled along with them.



This scanner does not work with the Mac at all. Image Capture is unable to recognize it. Same with Photoshop. I looked around on Plustek's website for a possible Mac download, but was unable to find any. Then I decided I'd pack it up and return it to Amazon. My bad, I should have taken the requirements at face value.



But then I saw a sticker on the box. "If your Plustek product is not working properly DO NOT RETURN TO PURCHASE STORE. Please contact Plustek Customer Support [...] Or call [...]



What the hell, I figured, I can give them a chance. Maybe they'll at least be friendly and let me down gently. So I dialed. "Hello?" a man said. I thought I'd mis-dialed, and reached some unaware residential phone. I checked the number on my phone's display. Nope, not a mistake, the number's correct. "Hello. Is this Plustek?" I asked. "Yeah," he replied. "Oh, okay. I'm calling for support." His response was a quick, "They're all gone for the day." Followed by a disconnected line.



And so I'm returning the product. I wish I were able to review its quality and functionality here. I'm sure it's a pretty good machine when paired with Microsoft Windows. But the company, Plustek, is not one I'd like to encounter ever again.

I agree with the other reviewers here that the Opticbook 3600 is great when it does

work. But it does not last. I got the Opticbook 3600 in June 2009 and used it

for about 4 months. Then after about 3 months of inactivity I started it up again

and discovered that the color and grayscale scan quality has badly degraded. I called the customer service but like the other reviewers have said, no one there

to talk to you. I am not happy with this product but it is the only scanner

that can scan book. Does anyone here have the same problem?

I bought my scanner from Plustek about 3 years ago. After ~300 scans the lamp started having issues warming up. I would have to power off and on the Scanner numerous times before the lamp would fully warm up. I called Plustek support and arranged to have the scanner fixed under warranty. Plustek could not find anything wrong with the scanner and sent it back. The only thing I could think of was my power, so I bought a power conditioner but it did not help. I ended up putting my scanner in storage after that. I could not bear to throw it away after paying so much for it. I found a patch on the Plustek site 2 years later that addressed the issue. I installed the patch but my scanner still had issues. I contacted Plustek support to see if they had any other fixes for the device. The tech told me that it was a known issue but because my scanner was out of warrant I would need to send my scanner into Plustek along with a 100 dollars and they would fix. I recounted the scanner's history and that the issue was simply not understood at the time I sent it in when it was under warranty. The tech recomended I get on Ebay and by a new scanner. Plustek simply doesn't care that I received a broken scanner with known issues and insists that I need to pay for shipping (again) and pay another 100 dollars to get it fixed. Plustek is not a company I plan on doing business with again and I recommend you don't ether.

Este scanner tiene una particularidad, además de la de poder escanear libros sin que le cree la mancha oscura en la unión del libro (en el medio), los botones son de un tamaño de muy fácil uso; en mi caso particular, me ahorra mucho tiempo el escaneo entre una hoja y otra, los escáneres convencionales, hay que tomar el ratón (mouse) y con el cursor apuntar un botón en particular, lo que te llevaba tiempo y energia, en este escaner, tocar el botón es cuestión de un segundo, y se hace un acto reflejo, lo cual te beneficia en tiempo de trabajo, ahorro, es una maravilla, el software es muy fácil de usar y de instalar, es muy rápido. Se ve que es un producto muy bien estudiado y probado. Nunca pensé que hubiese un producto similar, las grandes compañias como HP, Canon, Fujitsu, Epson, etc. no tienen un producto similar a este.

We scanned nearly 10000 photos from all of our family photo albums in 3-4 weekends (most of the time was taking them out of the album). It is fast, and scans the speed advertised. The Kodak software is very simple, as another review stated, BUT, as I learned a little too late in my project, you can use the TWAIN (or WIA) driver that also gets installed to use the scanner with virtually any other software, so you can scan a color two-sided document into Acrobat and have the text recognized, no problems. The biggest benefit of using the scanner this way is that you can set the feeder timeout value from the default 1 second that the Kodak simple software uses, to a couple minutes even. This is so helpful if you have small photos that get caught or your stack gets 'stuck' momentarily, and the Kodak software stops if that continuous stream stops from just the 1 second, and you have to click resume button on the computer, etc. It would be nice to set this in the Kodak software, but you can use the #3 smartScan preset to bring in all your photos as 300dpi JPEGs, using whatever timeout you want (I found 60 seconds so much better so you can gather your pictures and have them all be in the same 'batch').





The only downside is the cost, most likely due to lack of competition.

I bought this scanner to scan my families photos. There are thousands of them collected over 100 years. Using a flatbed scanner is not a practical solution to this kind of problem. I found this scanner through many net searches. It is expensive - it is clearly designed for a commercial operation. But, this machine can really crank through the scans.



It is designed to take a stack of photos and quickly scan them. In this, it really succeeds. You can mix sizes, orientations, color/b&w. Even if a photo goes in angled the software will produce a good straight scan. The controls are limited - no cropping, limited edited - but for what it is designed to do, it does extremely well. You can rotate and perform a very simple retouch. I have heard that many of the bulk scanning services use this scanner. In less than one hour, I scanned a couple of hundred photos at 600dpi.



Upsides: Good quality scans at reasonable resolution very quickly with no hassle.



Downside: Expensive, software simple and is limited to bulks scanning. Requires Windows so I had to bootcamp my Mac.

Recently I needed to convert a magazine article to Microsoft Word. I used 4 programs, Adobe 9, OmniPage 17, PaperPort 12, and Read I.R.I.S. Pro 12. Read I.R.I.S. did the most accurate conversion. Adobe 9 did a good job converting to PDF but the MS Word rendering was not a good as Read I.R.I.S. When converting other material I test with these four programs and the best performer is not always the same. It depends upon the nature and the quality of the source.

I am 70 and not very fast at learning complex things. All I wanted was a way of scanning text files, like Tables of Contents of music books, in order to put them into an Excel file for searching. I can scan them into Word, but I get the editable text in a frame that I can not transfer to Excel. The clue must be in the manual. I will keep looking.

Such a project used to be simple, but today's software programs are too complex.

The Silverfast software makes this a must purchase. Digitizing several thousand slides with all manner of color problems and uncleanable dirt is a problem that this scanner and software handles nicely. It takes time to remove specks and problems but really does a nice job. So far I've done several hundred and the instant scan (no warmup) works perfectly. I chose to scan at 300dpi jpg which results in perfect 4x6 prints with the downside being a cost of 6meg a scan. Tiff, while better, is just too large to consider for family snaps when talking about thousands to store. I do choose the highest scan rate for archival slides. Like anything there is a "getting used to it" learning curve, but it flows pretty fast. Initial prescan lower rez scan takes about 15 secs and the actual scan takes about 45secs. Of course you need to factor the time you might spend color correcting etc. Slides are really leftover dinosaurs... and this is perfect for bringing the pix into the digital age.

Out of the box the 7300 does just what it should do. I am using it with my Corel photo software because that's what I'm used to. I am scanning slides from 1960 - 1965 at present and they look wonderful. I Received the Plustek OpticFilm 7300 35mm film scanner a few days after it was ordered for me as a birthday gift; it arrived at my home in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains in mint condition. It took me longer to find the instructions than it took to hook it up. I followed the six steps, loaded a 35mm color transparency (slide) pushed the IntelliScan button and saved it to a folder I'd built for copies. The first trial scan was a bit dark, so I used the on-screen adjustments and played for a couple of hours. One thing I should have purchased at the same time was a bulb/brush to clean the film. Some of my slides are 45 years old and are a tad dusty. Things tend to get that way in a den.

Has so many options you mistakenly click the wrong button and jam the computer. It's best to use the simple scan option and clean and color correct the image with Photoshop or some other program. All in all, a great deal. Highly recommended.

Setup was little problem, both hardware and software. I was scanning in less than a half hour.



The included Silverfast software controller is absolutely necessary to make it produce accurate contrast and density.



The highest resolution is quite impressive with legacy Kodachromes BUT at max resolution it takes MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES to scan one slide.



So if you want to go into business converting other people's legacy film collections - this won't give you adequate throughput. But if you are converting your own legacy slides/negatives and are willing to prune your past down to the better images at this point, then this slide scanner is a cost effective solution.



In short: good results but painfully slow.

The product performs as advertised. The only difficulty with using it, is the cumbersomeness of loading/unloading the slides into the carrier. The carrier only holds 3 at a time and they often get hung up when trying to close the carrier door. For $64 with free shipping, this product is a great deal. Unless you are a complete moron with no common sense, this slide scanner is simple and easy to use. I bought it to convert a few hundred slides to pictures for my in-laws 50th anniversary party and it did a fine job. After reading the reviews on Amazon, I was a bit sceptical, but I kept in mind that there are more idiots on this planet than intelligent people. Set up was easy, directions were simple, I had no software problems(Vista) and the results were good with slides and negatives. The only complaint I have is that the slide and negative trays are hard to open with man hands and seem fragile, but did not break. If your slides are in good shape you will get good pictures, if they are deteriorated, dirty and dark you will get bad pictures, the little scanner can't turn garbage into gold. This product is wonderful for converting your slides to pictures & then on to a CD. Then it is easy then to make prints if you want. In addition you have wonderful editing tools to make the picture look even better ot to crop. I am so glad I purchased this product. The pictures have really brought back wonderful memories.

Very easy to install. Even dad who is 70 yrs old figured it out. I didn't need to walk him through it. He's converting long lost memories that have been in boxes in the attic. These old slides were nearly lost and thanks to his new toy, he's spending his time digitizing his photos. Perfect gift for retired father. It's occupied him for days.

This item does not work for me, and their support folks are no help. It comes with aging drivers, invasive software, and is just not able to do anything on my XP machine. I wasted a lot of time and money on this and will never buy anything from ION Audio again.
