"Now Works on a Macintosh" 2010-08-20
By andrewv1 (Houston, TX USA)
I'm pleasantly surprised that the Mac Beta Software works so well on the first go around. My question though is why Epson and Canon among others have not targeted the Book Scanning Market like Plustek?

 "Plustek is a joke." 2010-02-20
By B. Williams (Portland, OR USA)
I bought this scanner hoping to use it with my Mac. The Mac OS is not listed under the system requirements, but since it's supposedly TWAIN compliant I assumed it would work with Apple's built-in Image Capture application. Most of the time system requirements for simple devices such as printers, cameras and scanners refer specifically to the (crummy) software bundled along with them.

This scanner does not work with the Mac at all. Image Capture is unable to recognize it. Same with Photoshop. I looked around on Plustek's website for a possible Mac download, but was unable to find any. Then I decided I'd pack it up and return it to Amazon. My bad, I should have taken the requirements at face value.

But then I saw a sticker on the box. "If your Plustek product is not working properly DO NOT RETURN TO PURCHASE STORE. Please contact Plustek Customer Support [...] Or call [...]

What the hell, I figured, I can give them a chance. Maybe they'll at least be friendly and let me down gently. So I dialed. "Hello?" a man said. I thought I'd mis-dialed, and reached some unaware residential phone. I checked the number on my phone's display. Nope, not a mistake, the number's correct. "Hello. Is this Plustek?" I asked. "Yeah," he replied. "Oh, okay. I'm calling for support." His response was a quick, "They're all gone for the day." Followed by a disconnected line.

And so I'm returning the product. I wish I were able to review its quality and functionality here. I'm sure it's a pretty good machine when paired with Microsoft Windows. But the company, Plustek, is not one I'd like to encounter ever again.

 "It doen Not last" 2010-02-01
By Hung V. Nguyen (Huntsville)
I agree with the other reviewers here that the Opticbook 3600 is great when it does

work. But it does not last. I got the Opticbook 3600 in June 2009 and used it

for about 4 months. Then after about 3 months of inactivity I started it up again

and discovered that the color and grayscale scan quality has badly degraded. I called the customer service but like the other reviewers have said, no one there

to talk to you. I am not happy with this product but it is the only scanner

that can scan book. Does anyone here have the same problem?

---------------------------

Following the advice of a reviewer here I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it and it is working fine now. When it is working this is a great product but it

does have some unstable behavior like this. I am undating my rating from two stars to four stars.

"Company does not Stand Behind Product." 2010-01-07
By Paul D. Keyes
I bought my scanner from Plustek about 3 years ago. After ~300 scans the lamp started having issues warming up. I would have to power off and on the Scanner numerous times before the lamp would fully warm up. I called Plustek support and arranged to have the scanner fixed under warranty. Plustek could not find anything wrong with the scanner and sent it back. The only thing I could think of was my power, so I bought a power conditioner but it did not help. I ended up putting my scanner in storage after that. I could not bear to throw it away after paying so much for it. I found a patch on the Plustek site 2 years later that addressed the issue. I installed the patch but my scanner still had issues. I contacted Plustek support to see if they had any other fixes for the device. The tech told me that it was a known issue but because my scanner was out of warrant I would need to send my scanner into Plustek along with a 100 dollars and they would fix. I recounted the scanner's history and that the issue was simply not understood at the time I sent it in when it was under warranty. The tech recomended I get on Ebay and by a new scanner. Plustek simply doesn't care that I received a broken scanner with known issues and insists that I need to pay for shipping (again) and pay another 100 dollars to get it fixed. Plustek is not a company I plan on doing business with again and I recommend you don't ether.

 "Productive Scanner" 2009-09-22
By Berta L. Magran

We have few of these scanners. They are continuously jamming and we have had to replace the feeders on some of them. Cheaply built, I would not recommend these scanners. We have alot better luck with Canon scanners.

     "Somewhat happy" 2009-07-06
    By Jones (seattle)
This scanjet has met every need I had and performs really well. There are a couple glitches with the software but after some use I've adjusted to it and now can work with it.

The quality is excellent and I love the document feeder, which was the main reason I picked this scanner.

If I could do anything to change it, it would be to make it easier to operate regarding the buttons on the front that explain nothing and the manual doesn't help. I had to work through the software and figure things out on my own. They COULD have made this into a great machine, but instead produced a product that leaves the customers disappointed and scratching their heads.

"HP does not repair scanners" 2008-11-07
    By Sally Ricks (Cibolo, TX)
Our library purchased the hp Scanjet 8270 Document Flatbed Scanner a little over a year ago and it worked fine up until a day or two after the one-year warranty expired. It started making a whirring noise and produced an illegible image. We have been advised by HP that they do not sell parts or repair scanners because they are manufactured in a dust-free environment. We paid about $900 for the scanner. We've been unable to locate an independent company that would repair the HP scanner and so the cost expended for this scanner has proved to be cost-ineffective. Because of the no-repair feature, I do not recommend its purchase for libraries.

     "Crappy Software" 2006-08-31
By C. Leinart (Dallas, TX United States)
BEWARE of using this if you are trying to scan to PDF - especially if you use PaperPort software. The pdfs show up with a documate watermark on them indicating that it is a trial version. GOOD LUCK getting it off...tried the ScanSoft support - they know it is an issue but their 'fix' doesn't work and you'll have to pay $40 if you want to talk to someone. Still have not figured this out. Also, pages scan at 25pp per minute once they start going through - the wait time at the start is long (even if you don't use the energy saving mode).

     "Just what I wanted" 2009-09-29
By Jamie M. Lindsley (Menlo Park,CA USA)
I have been looking for a card scanner for home> I get a few cards from time to time and always wished they were in my Outlook contacts. I hated to spend too much on one due to the limited ammount I will use it. I saw this one on E-Bay first and decided to Google it for reviews and what not and found that it was cheaper on Amazon. It works just as it shoudl and the numbers go right into Outlook.

    Thanks

"The little scanner that could" 2009-09-22
    By Derek Norfield (Virginia, USA)
I needed a business card scanner but it was not worth $200 plus to me to get rid of the pile of business cards in the desk drawer.

The Genius scanner was the answer. It works great and 95% of the cards were totally correct on the first pass. It was quick and easy. I was able to export the data to Outlook and to synchronize after adding more files. The Cardscan software keeps all the data including the images of the cards so you can go back and look at a card later. It can also link to ACT!.

It is great to take on the road as it comes with a small carrying case to hold the scanner and USB cable.

The price is low because it has an older version of the IRIS Cardscan software. You can upgrade if you want later.

It really is a Genius decision to buy one of these!

I needed an inexpensive way to get a 300 dpi line scanner. This filled the requirements perfectly. Out of the box I found that the software provided was very limited and that the Twain driver was not universal.

"My Genius had a major drop in IQ" 2009-06-20
By Carla Fair-Wright (Houston, TX USA)
I do a lot of networking. If business cards were money, I could sell my company and retire. I bought this little gizmo thinking I'll automate the tedious process of scanning the cards and having to cut and paste the text.

I was happy when I got my business card reader, happy like a child opening a Christmas day gift. I plugged in my scanner and started to streamline the networking "process". "Santa was good to me," I thought as I scanned card after card. After a few weeks, strange and unexpected things began to happen. The reader would work sometimes and sometimes it would not. One day, it simply stopped working period....just like that
