The software is kludge. [Update....several hours later....] Let me rephrase that. This 'software' is PURE UNADULTERATED KLUDGE. And I have the distinct impression that whoever wrote it uses English as a tertiary language.



The duplexing ONLY works with 8.5" wide paper.



Additionally, just straight scanning from the document feed tray is flaky for documents only 6.5"x4.25". It won't feed them at all if you put the narrow edge in first. And if you use the wide edge, it truncates the scanned image, cutting off material.

I use this scanner at work. I scanned over 3,000 documents and rarely had an issue. Normally if I had a problem it was because the document became jammed due to bent corners, etc. I'm seriously thinking about buying one for home.



PageMaker came with the scanner, and I love that software. I can make the documents PDF, Word, Powerpoint, etc., very easily. I hope that this software still comes with it.

Everything about the scanner looked prefect for my business. The software is the problem. It has corrurpted my operating system twice. Both to the point of totally reloading the entire system. It has been nothing but a nightmare from start to now. I haven't used it since the second crash. Can't get any new downloads from HP to correct it, last install was on the latest update. Don't even look at this scanner.

I can't believe HP made this pathetic product. Every 5th paper jams with the automatic document feeder. I should have done my homework on Google, which has plenty of nightmare stories about this product. I returned this product and bought a printer/scanner combo with an auto document feeder. It works great and cost about 60% less. Ironically, it is also an HP product.

I also own a Xerox DocuMate 152 for my desktop PC, which is a full-duplex scanner with an auto document feeder. This unit is paired with my laptop and replaces one which had a 16-bit Cardbus interface which was not available on my new laptop. The Visioneer has Kodak Virtual ReScan (VRS) technology, which optimizes the contrast of your black & white scans, setting the threshold almost as perfectly as you would if you started in grayscale and tweaked the balance back to black & white...a real time-saver. I also like the notification area toolbar, where you can choose the behavior of the scanner when a sheet of paper is inserted; it can either do nothing and wait for you to launch software manually or begin scanning once its sensor is tripped. They have also included a novel cleaning feature which will draw in a fiber cleaning sheet and wipe it back and forth a few times before ejecting it, thus reducing the susceptibility of streaks if something gets dragged across the sensor. It's fast, seems to feed consistently and offers great scans. No complaints here (thus far).

The Visioneer Road Warrior scanner is easy to set up and use. It also fits easily into my laptop bag. It works great for paper and receipts... only acceptable for photographs. I had hoped to use it to scan some family photos while traveling, but it was only partly successful in this area and began scanning with streaks pretty quickly. The cleaner and alignment papers did not resolve the problem. Despite this, I'm happy with the purchase. You just have to recognize the limits of the device.

The Silverfast software makes this a must purchase. Digitizing several thousand slides with all manner of color problems and uncleanable dirt is a problem that this scanner and software handles nicely. It takes time to remove specks and problems but really does a nice job. So far I've done several hundred and the instant scan (no warmup) works perfectly. I chose to scan at 300dpi jpg which results in perfect 4x6 prints with the downside being a cost of 6meg a scan. Tiff, while better, is just too large to consider for family snaps when talking about thousands to store. I do choose the highest scan rate for archival slides. Like anything there is a "getting used to it" learning curve, but it flows pretty fast. Initial prescan lower rez scan takes about 15 secs and the actual scan takes about 45secs. Of course you need to factor the time you might spend color correcting etc. Slides are really leftover dinosaurs... and this is perfect for bringing the pix into the digital age.

Out of the box the 7300 does just what it should do. I am using it with my Corel photo software because that's what I'm used to. I am scanning slides from 1960 - 1965 at present and they look wonderful. I will try the supplied software later but for now the quick setup is zipping along and doing everything I need for clean, clear pictures.

I Received the Plustek OpticFilm 7300 35mm film scanner a few days after it was ordered for me as a birthday gift; it arrived at my home in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains in mint condition. It took me longer to find the instructions than it took to hook it up. I followed the six steps, loaded a 35mm color transparency (slide) pushed the IntelliScan button and saved it to a folder I'd built for copies. The first trial scan was a bit dark, so I used the on-screen adjustments and played for a couple of hours. One thing I should have purchased at the same time was a bulb/brush to clean the film. Some of my slides are 45 years old and are a tad dusty. Things tend to get that way in a den.

This scanner works like scanners costing 10 -20x the price. I am impressed. However the software is not easy to figure out. Has so many options you mistakenly click the wrong button and jam the computer. It's best to use the simple scan option and clean and color correct the image with Photoshop or some other program. All in all, a great deal. Highly recommended.

Setup was little problem, both hardware and software. I was scanning in less than a half hour.



The included Silverfast software controller is absolutely necessary to make it produce accurate contrast and density.



The highest resolution is quite impressive with legacy Kodachromes BUT at max resolution it takes MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES to scan one slide.



So if you want to go into business converting other people's legacy film collections - this won't give you adequate throughput. But if you are converting your own legacy slides/negatives and are willing to prune your past down to the better images at this point, then this slide scanner is a cost effective solution.



In short: good results but painfully slow.

I replaced a UMAX Powerlook II with the Epson V 750 Pro. This is an excellent scanner for working as a stand-alone scanner to do copies or OCR into Microsoft Word. The scanning capabilites are excellent and it will work thie the SliverFast or EZ color utilities (trial versions)that are bundled. Setup of the scanner went exceptionally well on the first try- far easier than some of the others that I have owned. This scanner has the ability to do transparencies, negatives, and x-rays which is a real bonus versus the slower Nikon one-slide-at-a-time scanner.



My only comments about the scanner is that Amazon ships the scanner by putting a UPS label directly on the box. The first scanner that came by standard UPS looked like it was dropped on one of the corners and was returned. The second scanner was ordered via overnight and arrived with two corners caved inwards and was refused. Finally, I got smart, paid the $3.99 for gift wrapping (blue bag) which meant thatt the wrapped scanner had to go in a larger box with padding. This one arrived without a scratch. Unfortunately, this ordering and returning becomes a problem. I don't understand why Amazon would ship a delicate electro-optical device and expose it to damage in transit.

The Epson Pervection V750 Pro is a good scanner. What I can't figure out is the instructions for the software are generic so they may be talking about features that are not included in the paticular software purchased. For example they talk about how easy it is to calibrate the scanner's color. They refer to a bar code printed on the 4x5 transparency included. The 4x5 included with my scanner did not have a bar code. I had to go to a web site and down load the calibration file. As usual I think the owners manual was written by and engineer and never test driven by someone unfamilar with the operation of the software. I'm no dummy and have been using PhotoShop for 15 years but their directions definately have room for improvement. The users forum I found worthless. Hardware is good but suport and software directions stink.

Have been scanning my own film since the first HP PhotoSmart scanner came out back in the 1990s. For the past 10 years, have been using an Agfa Duoscan T2500 (2500 dpi optical). However, due to its SCSI interface and lately some color quirks in the scan data, have been seeking a replacement/upgrade.



Purchased the Epson V750 after closely studying the reviews here and the detailed external review. After using the Epson for a couple weeks now, I can say that I am not surprised at its performance but still a little disappointed in the delivered scan resolution compared to the specifications. In multiple testing using positives and negatives, film holder and flat glass, film-height adjusters (middle setting always the best), and regardless of the resolution selected for the scan, the actual detail present in the scans is not much greater than that delivered by the old Agfa Duoscan at 2500 dpi. That is to say, lots of pixels and large scan files but not the "information per pixel" that would correspond to "true" optical densities like 4800 or 6400 dpi. On the other hand, the Epson scan files do sharpen very nicely with Photoshop USM. After sharpening, I then use Photoshop's image size function to reduce the resolution down to 3200 dpi for efficient storage.



A month back I had a roll of Kodak 160NC processed and premium-scanned by a professional lab. This was partly to have an independent benchmark for scanner comparisons. The resulting scans looked very very good at a calculated scan density of about 3500 dpi. Conducting a very careful scan with the Epson, I was able to obtain a (post-sharpened) image file not quite as good as, but very close to, the professional scan.



Regarding the accompanying SilverFast AI software (which I've used exclusively for my testing and scanning), the delivered version is fully licensed and activated once you enter the product key found on the CD sleeve. Note this version is locked to the Epson scanner. Also note that LaserSoft Imaging (publisher of SilverFast) has created a product structure with countless options and SilverFast AI is not by any means the top end of their line. One missing option that would be very nice to have is Multi-Exposure. The options are available as upgrades to the basic SilverFast AI package, for a price of course. All that said, SilverFast AI is a very capable scanning package and I've been quite happy with it.



I also used the accompanying EZcolor calibration package to create an input profile for the Epson. This was a straightforward procedure and did result in an improved color accuracy as judged by comparing the original scan of the supplied standard color target with the profiled scan.



In summary, the Epson V750 with the supplied software is a fine, relatively affordable solution for film scanning enthusiasts. Actual resolution of details delivered to the image files is probably in the low 3000's - a useful resolution for 35mm frames and more than adequate for larger film sizes.

This scanner is a top notch performer. I have scanned 300 slides so far and the quality of the scans is amazing. These slides ranged in age from 55 to 35 years old and if the color in the slide had faded the Epson's color enhancing capability restored the color almost to original quality. I have then viewed those slides on a 42 inch flat screen (using Apple TV) and the images are crisp, clear and full color. All works very well. Only issue is that it takes a long time for the scanner to boot up and start the initial scan. After the initial scan it moves rather quickly. This may be a software issues since I have plenty of RAM and I am using Win7 64 bit.

I received the scanner in a timely manner, in good condition. The software was easy to use and hookup instructions simple and clear. Unfortunately, the scanner would not work. After following the "problem" guidelines, I finally called in a professional computer tech. After three hours, we gave up and the scanner was returned. The company was very helpful with the return. No idea why it didn't work.

I previously had a HP scanner and wanted to stay with HP because there were no problems. All features are good. Ease of use is good. I rated 3 stars for Mac use, longevity, and slides because I can't comment on those.

I did have issues with installation of the software and getting some of the functions to work. I don't recall the exact error, but a google search of the error led me to the answer. HP on line help topics were useless.

I bought this because I needed to scan a few dozen very old negatives of varying sizes. I couldn't find much in this price range, and none of the other models seemed to stand out. That being said, I pretty much agree with the criticisms that other reviewers remarked on: It's very slow, software is not very good and is confusing, and it doesn't look like a lot of engineering thought went into it.



After being frustrated, I bought a third party software package that is used for scanners ([...]) and found out that most of the problem with speed must reside in the HP software. The Vuescan software package speeds up the whole process by a factor of 3 or 4, and is easy to use to boot. So, my recommendation is either to return for something better, if you can find something, or try this software (for another $40.00) or something similar.
